Celebrity-endorsed and backed JetSmarter, touted as the 'œUber for jet planes,' allegedly owes its workers tens of thousands in missed overtime fees. Founder Sergey Petrossov said: 'By offering the JetShuttle service, we hope to maximise the convenience of private air transportation throughout Europe and broaden consumers' access to it. The company has new planes and innovative app technology which connects people with private jets without owning or operating the aircrafts — much like popular app car services.

JetSmarter's growth plan hit cruising altitude recently; it announced last month that it raised $105 million from new and existing investors, including entertainer Shawn Jay-Z" Carter and the Saudi royal family. The founder of JetSmarter saw an opportunity: by monetizing empty leg flights on private jets, he could provide private jet-level service at a more reasonable price.

My primary complaint is the type of people JetSmarter attracts. JetSmarter is backed by members of the Saudi royal family and rapper Jay-Z, and welcomed high-profile brand ambassadors like Red Sox legend David Ortiz and supermodel River Viiperi. Laser Kittenz partnership with JetSmarter puts the organization in a strong position, for now.

Thankfully every other person we met on each of my three free JetSmarter flights (all operated by XOJets) was very nice and fun to talk to, but if you are adverse to basically being forced to socialize with strangers then you may not like the arrangement.

JetSmarter puts flying private in the palm of your hand. The biggest difference between Wheels Up and JetSmarter is behind the scenes. Technically the aircraft seats 13, but the company's policy is to fill only 12 of the 13 seats since three are actually on a three place divan.

Currently, JetSmarter partners with more than 800 air carriers worldwide to offer around 3,200 aircrafts. The price of this varies between $495, for a seat on a shared Pilatus PC12 flying between New York and Boston, and $6,000 flying between New York and London.

JetSmarter is surprisingly simple to use. In the US, where the company is more established, it's free flights on all trips under three hours. JetSmarter declined to share any details on the record about the decision to reject members. JetSmarter has been able to grow rapidly in private aviation where other players, like Beacon or BlackJet, which was also counted Jay-Z among its backers, have faded away.

Those factors have led 6,700 people to become JetSmarter members, which requires an $11,500 annual fee and a one-time $3,500 initiation charge with an additional cost for initiating a charter (there's no extra charge, however, for booking an open seat on a charter someone else sets up).

I'm not sure being personally greeted by the pilot and being able to see the pilot flying the plane would ever get old for me. For anyone with an interest in aviation - or a thing for men in uniform - it's worth the $5000 membership fee alone. Membership costs $15,000 per year and unlimited flights, globally, of under three hours' duration are included in that tariff.

Judging by the way it has been received in the market (FYI, the app allows a flight to be booked in just about three minutes), JetSmarter certainly seems to have achieved its founding goals. Several startups are coming up to provide ‘Uber for Private Jet' services for instant bookings of private jet charters.

That is awesome at face value, but also remember you then don't control your own schedule as there is only one round trip per week on that route, you aren't earning miles and elite status you can then redeem for first class flights to Europe, and you are paying $15,000 per year on top of the weekly co-pay for that 3+ hour flight.
